Course Fee: £425.00

The Divemaster course is the first step to becoming a Professional Diving Instructor as it is the first professional level qualification within the PADI system. However, many keen divers embark on this valuable and challenging course simply to attain recognition of their diving abilities and to enable them to act as official assistants to PADI instructors or to be dive leaders in their own right.

During the course you will expand your knowledge of diving theory and your diving skills to a professional teaching standard. Divemaster candidates are involved in the training of Open Water students and assist in the planning and supervising of other diving activities.
This provides candidates with 'hands-on' experience in real life situations that will prove invaluable to those candidates choosing to embark on the Instructor Development Course or wishing to provide the highest quality Divemaster assistance.

The PADI Divemaster course consists of three modules: Knowledge Development, Water Skills and Stamina and Practical application. You will progress through all the three modules simultaneously based upon the course schedule you and your Instructor agree on. The schedule will depend on your needs and the amount of time you have available for diving. There are certain course requirements and some portions of the course must be completed before others.

Twelve topics make up the Knowledge Development module. You’ll cover these topics through independent study, projects and discussions as well as Instructor presentations. Your independent study will include reading the Divemaster manual and completing the Knowledge reviews, plus use of materials such as the PADI Divemaster video, all versions of the ERDP, the Diving Knowledge workbook, the Business of Diving book, PADI speciality videos, the Open Water Diver CD-Rom and other materials listed throughout the manual.

Your Instructor will also hold informal discussions throughout the course to provide more information, to check your progress and to give you an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about what you are learning.

The water skills and stamina module has two goals - to develop and evaluate your overall water skills and stamina, and to improve on your existing scuba skills. You will also refresh your rescue skills.

The practical application module allows you to learn divemaster skills. You will begin by completing four required training exercises; a mapping project of a dive site, an underwater problem solving exercise, implementing a divemaster conducted program and managing a dive accident scenario.

After the required training exercises, you'll have a chance to develop and practise divemaster skills with student divers and actual divers, under instructor supervision.

Please Note:

1. Leybourne Lake Dive Centre cannot be held responsible for any expenses incurred for extended course duration due to exam re-sits or adverse weather conditions.

2. A FULL Diving Medical is required before starting the practical part of the course.

3. It is advised that a candidate have a full set of personal diving equipment before commencing on a Divemaster course and certainly before embarking upon Instructor level courses.

4. A minimum of 60 dives must be logged before certification can be issued. You may however start the course with only 20 logged dives.

5. The following materials will be required for the Divemaster course: Encyclopaedia of Recreational Diving, Diving Knowledge Workbook and all versions of the Recreational Dive Planner.

The IDC is the gateway to becoming a Professional Diving Instructor with the worlds most widely recognised Scuba Diving teaching qualification. There are two components; the Assistant Instructor course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor program. These may be completed separately or combined in a full Instructor Development Course program.

Successful completion of the IDC curriculum qualifies Instructor Candidates to attend the PADI Instructor Examination (I.E.) which is conducted independently by PADI central office staff.

Our Course Director and Master Instructor IDC Staff put every effort into making the IDC sessions Fun & Enjoyable – relieving stress and helping you meet the challenge of studying whilst having a fun along the way! We put several extra curricular sessions into our IDC programs to make sure that when you reach the Instructor Exams you’ll feel that IE stands for "It’s Easy !"

IDC PREPARATION

You’ve made a major lifestyle decision to become a PADI Instructor – so you need to get ready in advance to ensure that the training is as stress free as possible and you can enjoy the fun

There are two areas of pre requisite study that ensure your success on the IDC:

IDC KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT

Primarily using the
IDC Candidate Workbook & the PADI Instructor Manual, you need to complete 16 Knowledge reviews prior to attending the A.I. course or full I.D.C. This gives you an understanding of the PADI system and prepares you for active participation in the Instructor Development program. You will need to refer to sections in PADI student manuals for Open Water / Adventures in Diving / Rescue Diver / Divemaster, as well as articles in the "Best of the UnderSea Journal", "Law and the Diving Professional" and"The Business of Diving".

DIVE THEORY REVISION

You need to come to the IDC having reviewed the key areas of Dive Theory Knowledge covered on the PADI Divemaster course. This is best achieved using the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving and Diving Knowledge Workbook to review the five key topics :
PHYSICS
PHYSIOLOGY
EQUIPMENT SKILLS & ENVIRONMENT
DECOMPRESSION THEORY & RDP
As part of an IDC you have to pass exams in these subjects to successfully complete your training prior to attending a PADI Instructor Examination.
Our IDC Staff will be available throughout the program to provide assistance and corrective coaching in these areas at no extra cost…

but you need to come prepared !

If you are in doubt as to your skills and knowlege why not attend the 2 day IDC preparation course. Run immediately before and IDC this course focuses on dive skills, and examination theory. If you were trained elsewhere this course gets you prepared for the high standards expected on our IDC’s £150
